Facts and figures
The more than 190-year history of the Oberfinanzdirektion (OFD) Baden-Württemberg dates back to the founding of the "Tax Directorate" of the Grand Duchy of Baden on June 1, 1826. In over 190 years, the authority has undergone numerous reforms - also and especially in the recent past: since 2005, the Oberfinanzdirektion has been the only central authority of the tax administration in Baden-Württemberg.
The Baden-Württemberg Regional Tax Authority itself employs 1,491 staff and is divided into a total of four departments and five staff units at the Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Freiburg locations. Specifically, these are the Tax Department, the Organization, Personnel and Budget Department (OPH Department), the IT Department (State Centre for Data Processing), the Baden-Württemberg Federal Construction Department and the five staff units of the Chief Finance President, State Treasury (LOK), State Centre for Financial Management (LZFI) and European Financial Control (EFK AF and EFK Str)
The financial administration of Baden-Württemberg has a classic three-tier structure. At the top is the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Finance. As the central authority, the Higher Finance Directorate of Baden-Württemberg is responsible for the official and technical supervision of 65 tax offices and 6 state building construction offices. Around 18,000 employees work for the Baden-Württemberg Regional Tax Authority, ensuring that tasks are carried out in a fair and citizen-oriented manner.
